Obscure Fred Broski Reference

Before we start, we have a special announcement: We have created a special logo for all Fred Broski related posts for this blog. When you see the logo, you'll know the post is going to be Broski-related.

Now, without further ado, here is our "Broski -- News Alert!" logo:

And now for our obscure Fred Broski reference, from the internet.

Today's reference comes from "The Cult," the website of author Chuck Palahniuk. He wrote "Fight Club." The book that the movie was based on.

Deep in one of the discussion threads a poster named "Chixulub" writes:

"I wonder what Shadov would make of Fred Broski's Polish Sausage (available in Mildski and Hotski)..."

Nathaniel Parker replies:

"is that a dick joke?"

Chixulub explains:

"Nope. They don't list it specifically on their web site, but it's an offering of Fritz's Meats. Local news guy (weather? sports? I forget) named Fred Broski got in touch with his Polish heritage. I think he made a trip back to the strange land called Poland and was surprised by how the sausage there wasn't anything like a Polish you'd get in the states.
So I guess he dusted of Grandmaski's recipe or whatever and had enough juice to get Fritz's to try it out on us. It's strange stuff, if they still make it. Very, very lean, it scorches easily because there's hardly any fat in it. And tons of seasoning even in the Mildski.
So I really do wonder what Shadov would make of the stuff. If it's super authentic or just a bunch of shuck and jive."

Fred Broski has an ungrateful daughter

In a previous post, I mentioned that circa 1970s Kansas City weatherman Fred Broski has a daughter.

Fred's daughter, Julie Broski, is now a weekend meteorologist at KCTV-5, the Kansas City CBS affilliate station. On the KCTV-5 website, there are bio pages for all its on-air staff. On Julie Broski's page, there is no mention of her father Fred Broski!

It's all well and good to want to establish your own reputation, but this is just ungrateful. You don't Trotski your own dad. She's probably already scheming to send him up to Silvercrest.

The following image has no real relevance to the above story. It's just a tribute to the Halloween candy sugar high.

Fred Broski Update

I previously mentioned Kansas City Weatherman Fred Broski in this post.

I'm currently visiting my parents in Kansas City. They recently received an advertisement in the mail for Silvercrest at Deer Creek, a Senior Living Community. On the ad, there's a picture of Fred Broski and the endorsement "It's so great, my Mom moved to Silvercrest." -- Fred Broski.

So he's got that going for him.

Plus:
Here's a story about his daughter.

Fred Broski: Painter

Longtime readers of this blog will note that we occasionally report on 70s-era Kansas City tv weatherman Fred Broski.

Here's the logo:

Apparently, since retiring from tv weather, Fred Broski has taken up painting. You can see his work here.

Jerry, Jerry, Bo Berry

In New York City, the local Fox Network affiliate has a morning show called "Good Day, New York." The hosts are Ron Corning and Jodi Applegate.

The movie "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" was released in 2004. It starred Christina Applegate as Veronica Corningstone.

God laughed; Fred Broski wept.

Lance Armstrong is no Fred Broski

Lance Armstrong now has this new black rubber bracelet he's selling to raise awareness of all the people ripping off his yellow bracelets. He's going to use the money to get a lawyer.

Hometown: Byfield!

We're starting a new feature, based some focus groups and surveys we did. Every now and then, we'll be featuring people on the internet who come from the town of Byfield, MA.

Let's meet Kim!

Apparently, she has a job with the Arena Football league. It must be very exciting.

Note: Unfortunately, Fred Broski is not from Byfield.

More About Fritz's Meats

Fritz's Meats is mentioned below in the "Fred Broski news alert!" It's a great little butcher shop very close to my parent's house. They specialize in smoked meat. My mom used to go there a lot when I was a kid. We'd get brisket and little tiny salami sausages. When you went in you could see all the meat hanging in the smoker. It's still in the same place it's been for almost forty years. The building looks nothing like you'd expect though, it's completely non-descript suburban cinder-block architechture. Maybe my mom will e-mail me a picture and I'll post it later.

Today's Yearbook Corrections

Yearbook editors in the tri-state area are having all sorts of problems.

In Phillipsburg New Jersey, you can see a girl's underpants.

Click here to read all about it!

In Northport, New York, the kids are quoting Hitler.

For Extra Credit:

I use the phrase "tri-state area" above, which, here in New York City means New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Aside from news articles, this phrase is often used by weathermen presenting the regional weathermap. When I was growing up, I lived in Kansas City, Missouri. Our local meteorological region included four states, not three; Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa. So our weatherman referred to the "four-state" area rather than the "tri-state area." But I always thought he (and the one I remember most is Fred Broski, who also hosted the local "Bowling for Dollars," which my mom competed in once), I always thought he was saying "fore-state" area, like "foreground," meaning, of course, the states closest to us, of which there only happened to be four.
